The Hindenburg was initially decided to use Helium to overturn the blimp because it was safest as it was not flammable. However, at the time it was passing expensive and only available from natural gas reserves in the united States. Hydrogen, instead, was chosen due to the lower fare and the increased lift due to the lower weight. Hydrogen could overly be routinely ventilated whereas helium could not. Usage of enthalpy aloud the Hindenburg to have an increased capacity of luxury passengers in its voyages.
